Get The Terminology Right

Yes, I said it; even experts don’t always get the terminology right!

I recently attended an in-person lunch-and-learn. The topic was interesting. The presenter was engaging, and the information being shared had plenty of potential value.

There was just one problem. The presenter kept using the term LLM incorrectly.

Get the Terminology Right

Now, I’m not suggesting that one terminology mistake automatically makes someone unqualified. We all make mistakes. I certainly do.

But if you’re standing in front of a room presenting yourself as an expert, there’s a simple rule worth remembering:

If you’re going to use the terminology, make sure you understand what it means.

This particular example involved artificial intelligence, where three terms often get tossed around as though they mean the same thing: Generative AI, LLM and ChatGPT. They don’t.

Understanding The Technology

Generative AI is the big umbrella. It refers to AI systems capable of creating new content, including text, images, music, video and computer code.

A Large Language Model, or LLM, is a specific type of AI designed to work with human language. It can process, understand patterns in and generate language.

ChatGPT (for example) is the application people interact with. It uses sophisticated AI models, including large language models, to provide a conversational interface.

Think of it this way: Generative AI is the category. An LLM is a type of technology within that category. ChatGPT is a product that puts that technology to work.

See? Not terribly complicated.

And that brings me to something we take seriously at Cortex Marketing.

Details matter.

Get the Terminology Right; Details Matter Your Success Starts Here

Whether we’re developing your brand, writing your website, building a marketing campaign, improving your SEO or creating content, we believe you should be represented accurately and professionally.

Our approach combines proven, award-winning methodologies with practical marketing experience. We don’t believe in throwing buzzwords at you and hoping they stick. We take the time to understand your business, your customers, your challenges and—most importantly—what you want to accomplish.

And if you want people to see you as an expert, you need to sound like one.

At Cortex Marketing, we’re pretty good at helping businesses do exactly that.

Let’s start with a conversation.

No hard sell. No unnecessary jargon. Just a conversation about your business and how better marketing can help you move it forward.
